MUNTU VALDO’S MINI CONCERT IN LONDON

Last Sunday at the Flyover venue in London’s Portobello, Cameroonian Afro jazz artist Muntu Valdo had a mini concert which was organised in association with the London African Music Festival. A few London based Cameroonians were there to support him and so was architect/artist Shiri Achu and her 9 month old daughter Zahara and our London PR girl Cynthia who were guest invited.

Muntu was there with part of his band to give the crowd an electrifying and unforgettable gig. The band members on the day included:-

Saxophone: Ross Huges (from England), Bass guitar: Jean Berthon (from France), Piano: Esben Tjalve (from Denmark), Drums: Michel castellano (from Cuba), Guitar & vox:  Muntu Valdo (from Cameroon), Sound: Cyril Dingome (from France).

Other bandmembers include: – Ernesto Simpson: Drums & vox (from Cuba), Angela Paz: percussion (from Chile), Dominic Ntoumos: trumpet (from Greece), Yebga Likoba: Saxophone (from Cameroon).

The majority of the tracks played on the night were new apart from 3 old tracks and 2 covers from Manu Dibango & Ekambi Brilliant.  The remaining 9 tracks were new compositions that will feature in Muntu’s new project due to be released mid 2014. The style showcases the bridge and the entwine between traditional West-Central African music and traditional and modern Latin American music with the whole stuff being about rythym and love.

We had 2 questions for Muntu and below are his replies.

MMPR: What did you think of the gig?

Muntu: The gig last was really good, we really enjoyed it. The audience responded very well. I felt it was a great night and a great performance both for and from the audience and for us as a band obviously.

MMPR: How do you intend to keep penetrating the musical ears of the UK public and beyond.

Muntu: I’d like to do that by giving the explanation and the authenticity of the real roots of the Latin American and African Rythym via showcasing the missing links. So with that option in mind, I’m still looking for the right angle under which I’ll promote this aspect of things in the best possible way.
