After living in San Francisco for 8 years, Dana Suchow moved to New York in 2009 to pursue her career as a struggling waitress. But that didn’t end up panning out so she decided to become a struggling fashion blogger instead. Dana has a unique and fun sense of style, often times using DIY methods that turn scarves into hats or skirts into shorts. And the affordability of her outfits have made her popular within a crowd of shoppers who have become less and less interested with brand names and labels, and more interested with creativity and individuality. This is what makes her blog Do The Hotpants stand out.
On August 4th, Dana took to her blog to post some before and after shots of her previous images and to also confess that she had indulged in the use of photoshopping to nip a bulge here and add a colour tone there. She said “In my ongoing mission to lift the veil that is currently suffocating us women, I realized that I, Hotpants, haven’t been entirely truthful with you. I’m sorry 😦 “
Then she further stated “But because I want to be as transparent with you as possible, I’ve decided to expose the instances where I used photoshop to distort and change my body. I know it might only look like an inch or 2 removed from my waist, or a couple zits blurred here and there, but my stomach and my skin have been huge insecurities for me my entire life. So me revealing these images to you are a HUGE DEAL 4 ME & not to be taken lightly. I’m putting my flaws out there, as little or as big as they seem, so please respect that this isn’t easy for anyone.”
The purpose of her post as she said was to remind us that…
1. NOT EVERYTHING IS REAL.
2. DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS.
3. LOVE YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE.
4. EVEN PEOPLE YOU LOOK UP TO ARE FLAWED.
5. YOU ARE A UNIQUE GODDAMN SNOWFLAKE SO NEVER FORGET THAT.
A very big message don’t we all agree? We are all different, we all come in different size and shapes, colour tones – in short our differences should be celebrated not pushed to fit one ideology! We totally support Dana and the purpose she was trying to achieve. Women, girls, boys, men – LOVE YOURSELF!!
