MMPR FOCUS: NETWORK TO NET WORTH…

Hello everyone, it has been a minute since we brought you something new so here we are today to tell you about our day at a recent networking gathering of selected young Cameroonians from different fields held in London.

The soirée took place at a private room on the roof top of the famous Gherkin building at St Mary Axe on the weekend of 8th July organised by Héra; an investment risk analyst working in Central London.

Those in attendance were from a diverse background which included investment banking, insurance management, media, PR, luxury event management, digital marketing, online peer-to-peer transportation – all with a reunifying interest which was doing business in/with Africa.

After the discussion and the exchange, the take home element for us from this gathering further deepened the importance of networking in building one’s net worth.

Here are a few:-

  • Networking with the right mix of people can further / boost one’s career or business.
  • Networking is relationship building which forms the basis of any and every partnership or working collaboration. One never knows when one will need / depend on a relationship in the future.
  • Networking offers visibility; being visible and getting noticed by the right audience can be a big benefit for one and one’s business.
  • Networking is also about friendship and building confidence in one’s self.
  • Networking can be a positive influence. The people one hangs around with and talks to do influence who one is and what one does, so it is important to be surrounding one’s self with positive, uplifting people that can help one grow.

According to Héra, together we can become stronger therefore this gathering will be a recurrent affair; “it is abnormal that talented people should find themselves each on their own corner oblivious of what the other is doing” she added.

The platform aims to become a place to share ideas, partner and work together.

MMPR FOCUS: THE COST OF NATHALIE KOAH’S BABY…

“A baby is a blessing. A gift from heaven above. A precious little angel to cherish and to love.”

In true celebrity style, Cameroon’s socialite Nathalie Koah welcomed her first child – a daughter named Beverly Nayla about two weeks ago at the renowned celebrity hospital and maternity unit Cedars Sinai in Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles California.

Having a baby is one of the most important events for a family. According to Cedars Sinai, mothers to be can take comfort in the knowledge that they will receive the highest level of care. Every mother and baby is special to them and the new mothers give birth in beautifully decorated private labour-delivery-recovery rooms.

These rooms furnished in soft colours, recessed lighting and coordinated bedding and drapery provide the mother to be with a sense of home. The special touches, including full-sized tubs for relaxation during labour and comfortable birthing beds also add to the mother’s comfort and all these come at a price of between USD 2,800 to USD 4,000 a night. Yes you read that right!!

Nathalie Koah had her baby around the 12th of October and left the hospital around the 17th of October (according to her posts), for a 5 five night’s stay at this facility brings her maternity room bill only to a cost of between USD 14,000 to USD 20,000.

Ms Koah joins a list of high profile celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, Kourtney Kardashian and Jessica Simpson to name but a few to have their babies at this hospital.

Despite her past, Ms Koah has identified her strengths and continues to forge a personal brand persona that is crafted on luxury and the luxe lifestyle. She is frequently seen carrying/wearing high end fashion/accessories and staying at high end hotels around the world.

For those looking to build their personal brand, here are a few tips:

  • Identify your uniqueness and strengths
  • Craft your personal brand persona
  • Build your platform – via social media?
  • Be yourself

We wish the new mother a wonderful new life as she embarks on this new journey of mummyhood.

MMPR FOCUS: THE PR DISASTER IN RIGOBERT SONG’S MISCOMMUNICATION…

« Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing.» ~ Rollo May

If like us you were hit with the news on Sunday that our powerful Capi aka Magnan aka Rigobert Song was struck down by the dreadful stroke/brain anuerysm, then we are sure in your own way you must have asked the good Lord to be with him and to bring him out of this sound and safe.

The news of the stroke quickly spread like wildfire on a hot summer’s day across the social media platforms with it culminating on Monday afternoon from several un-confirmed / un-associated sources that Capi had passed away – how cruel.

rigo-2

What struck us was the fact that there has been no designated official spokesperson for Song to act as a source of information for the public and news medias and to put to bed all the vile rumours and made up stories surrounding the situation (the official Fecafoot Twitter profile has not even shared the news!).

Given the fact that Song has lived a public life for a number of years, a personal staff which SHOULD include an official spokesperson or PR representative is a priority especially in this day and age of social media virality. But all we have seen so far is updates from this person who knows that person or regurgitated information from online sites with no real verification…for a personality of his stature that is a PR disaster at a high level!

Here are some recommendations of what should have happened:

  1. Set up a social media profile (Facebook which feeds to Twitter or just a Twitter account)
  2. Designate an official spokesperson (capable of expressing in both English and French.)
  3. Decide on the message (including visual) that you want the public to know and stick to that.
  4. Hold a news conference to inform the public on the situation – facts only.
  5. Keep the online profile updated at least daily.
  6. Interact with the public – reply to their ‘get well soon’ posts, share/retweet messages – bring them close and show them you are appreciative of their thoughts and support at this difficult time.

In all of this, we wish our Capi a speedy recovery.

MMPR FOCUS: 6 FACTS ABOUT MYRA MAIMOH THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW NOW…

Always smiley and cheerful Myra Maimoh grew up within a big, Christian family in Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon with her mother being her greatest musical influence.

Influenced by her mother’s discs of Skeeter Davies, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, African blues and throughout the spectrum from country music, traditional African music to jazz and pop, Myra started singing and dancing, while still in preschool at the age of 3. She wrote her first set of songs and stories at the age of 13 and since then Myra’s music journey has grown from strength to strength.

On Saturday August 13th Myra is scheduled to release her follow up album entitled UNIQ and she just cannot wait for you to take a listen. So while we wait the for the release date to come, here are 6 facts you definitely should know about her!

Myra1(3)

  1. Myra is known to be kind of goofy. She grew up in a house with a whole lot of laughter even during trying times when there was really no reasons to laugh or goof about. In her family, they don’t seem to take themselves too seriously although devoted to hard work. When it’s time to be serious, they do that really well and the rest of the time they are full of goofiness which as Myra states “I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.”Oh well, a goofy artist is not bad at all is it?!!
  2. Always very smiley but you will be shocked to find out that Myra is known to be shy & reserved! Oh yes! However, when she is performing on stage all timidity and shyness fly out of the window! As a result, people who don’t know her very well usually either think she’s arrogant or too shy when they meet me for the first time. But after watching her on stage or knowing her more, they almost always ask this question – why did I ever think you were a quiet girl? Her response: beats me! [Haa haaa!!]
  3. Myra has 2 Masters degrees and she is an advocate for education especially for the girl child. Here is her story: at a point in her life, she wasn’t even sure she was ever going to be able to get even a Bachelors degree. Her family was going through some really turbulent times and they couldn’t quite afford a lot. The farther the dream was for her to go as far as she could with her education, the more resolved she was to get the best education. God opened door after door and before she knew it, she had not only a Bachelors degree from a great business school in Germany but also a Masters degree in International Management and another in International Business from another good university in the USA. “I know there are a lot of young girls back at home in Cameroon who probably won’t complete their studies and thus miss their chances to showcase their talent just because there is no one to help. Reason why I am a big advocate for educating the poor and hopeless because that was me at some point in my life.
  4. Myra loves food believe it or not – she loves trying out recipes, cooking and hosting. Her house is almost always full. She loves cooking all sorts of foods and usually has cooking competitions with her spouse. If it’s healthy, she will try it!
  5. Myra is an outdoor lover. If she could spend the whole day outside, that would make her ultimate day. She does like to wind down at home but the most fulfilling days for her is full days out with family and it mustn’t be full of adventurous things, she is happy with just walking for as long as she can.
  6. In case you only see her super glam side,  remember that Myra is a major tomboy! Till she was about 15, she played football with neighbourhood kids, wrestled, climbed trees, went hunting. Her mum had to do an intervention before she started acting like a  “Cameroonian girl” should! “I don’t even know what that means but found out it meant a lot to my mum.  I like photography and beauty shots only because it’s art but in reality, you will rarely see any makeup on my face. I think it’s overrated.” states Myra.

festafrica

Myra is scheduled to be performing at the FestAfrica free event in Silver Springs, MD on her album launch date next Saturday. If you are in the area, turn up, keep it turnt and have fun!
